On 23 October 2025, within the framework of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week (MIL Week 2025), the Regional Meeting “For a Trustworthy Internet: From Principles to Practice – Advancing the Governance of Digital Platforms in Latin America and the Caribbean” took place in Cartagena de Indias.
Organized by UNESCO, in collaboration with the Global Forum of Networks (GFN) and the I4T Knowledge Network, the meeting brought together regulatory authorities, civil society, academia, governments, and digital platforms to discuss regional progress in implementing UNESCO’s Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms.
Digital policy expert and consultant Natalia Zuazo took part in the event, presenting a regional overview of digital platform governance in Latin America during a panel alongside Tawfik Jelassi, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, and other distinguished regional leaders.
The meeting highlighted key opportunities and challenges to strengthen multistakeholder and human rights–based approaches to digital governance across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Participants included representatives from PRAI, CRC Colombia, SECOM Brazil, Fundación Karisma, Universidad de San Andrés, UPF Barcelona, and the I4T Knowledge Network, among other key actors.
The dialogue helped to advance regional cooperation toward a more inclusive, transparent, and trustworthy digital ecosystem.
